Mosaic in Motion
Growing with Our Partners in Teacher Education
Each year, Mosaic, the teacher training platform, gathers feedback from those using the platform at every level — from programme leaders and mentors to trainees themselves. The goal? To understand what’s working, where we can improve, and how we can better support the future of teacher education.
Since our last user survey in 2024, Mosaic’s development team has been hard at work. Drawing directly from the ideas, frustrations and ambitions shared by users, we’ve rolled out new features, refined existing tools, and laid the groundwork for transformative updates to come.
This update shares how Mosaic has evolved in response — and what’s next. To better understand the thinking behind recent developments, we spoke with Paul Mallaband, Mosaic Co-founder and Product Director, about what’s changed — and why.
1. Lighter Admin Load: Streamlining Workload & Documentation
One of the most common themes from the 2024 survey was the desire to reduce administrative burden and simplify documentation processes. In response, Mosaic has delivered:
Improved Training Plan and Course Activities functionality, reducing reliance on the more rigid and less trackable “Files” area.
Cohort-to-cohort copying for course targets, making it quicker and easier to roll forward programme structures.
Exportable monitoring data, introducing more export points to help providers bring together key insights across systems.
These changes were designed with efficiency in mind, allowing providers to shift their time and focus to more impactful work.
2. Mentoring Made Simpler: New Training & Support Tools
Supporting mentors emerged as a top priority. Since then, Mosaic has launched comprehensive Mentor Training tools, offering:
A dedicated space for mentors to access training at their own pace.
Integrated discussion forums to encourage reflection and peer engagement.
Features for notifications and announcements to prompt timely activity.
Several providers are now using Mosaic solely for mentor training — a testament to its value as a standalone offer.
3. Target Setting: Entering the Age of AI
Target setting was another area for improvement, particularly around clarity, consistency, and alignment with curriculum. In response, Mosaic has:
Improved course target functionality, including the ability to copy targets across cohorts and early steps toward supporting quality assurance through future AI-powered tools.
Launched an AI and target setting working group — a collaboration with volunteer ITE providers exploring how artificial intelligence might support both target quality and wider mentoring and coaching cycles in ITE.
This includes opportunities to enhance critical reflective practice, improve target clarity, and navigate ethical implications. Early-stage functionality is already being piloted to inform future platform development.
This ongoing initiative will remain a central focus throughout 2025.
4. Navigation & Usability: A More Intuitive Teacher Training Platform
Usability has seen both design and support-focused improvements:
A redesigned homepage is currently in testing, offering tailored views depending on user role.
Expanded notifications and homepage reminders, improving visibility of required actions and helping keep student teachers on track.
Filtering and sorting improvements across Course Activities for more efficient navigation.
Cohort-level Instructor lists, empowering delivery partners to manage mentor pairings and school relationships directly, without needing full institution access.
A new cohort-level competency monitoring view in Mentor Training, helping providers easily monitor mentor engagement with key areas of the curriculum.
Mosaic also introduced a dedicated Customer Experience Manager role to ensure providers get the most from every feature. This role focuses on personalised implementation, strategic onboarding, and proactive ongoing support.
5. Personalised Support at Scale

Staying Focused on What Matters Most
All of these improvements share a single purpose: to support teacher education providers by saving time on the admin that surrounds engagement tracking, monitoring, QA and data compilation — so they can focus on what truly matters.
By easing the burden of administration, Mosaic gives providers more capacity to:
Deliver excellence in training.
Champion and empower the next generation of teachers.
Foster confident, resilient, well-supported trainees equipped not only to succeed — but to thrive — as they enter the profession.
It’s our belief that great tools lead to great teaching — and that celebrating and supporting those entering the sector is key to strengthening it.
We look forward to the new insights our upcoming 2025 survey will bring.
We’re always evolving — and that’s thanks to our wonderful community. If you have thoughts, ideas, or feedback ahead of the 2025 survey, we’d love to hear from you.
