Case Study: Designing a Connected ITE Programme Using Mosaic
27th March 2026
Supporting programme oversight and a connected training experience
Teach West London shares how Mosaic supports programme oversight, embeds quality assurance and enables a connected training experience across a large partnership.
In this case study, Nicola Fish, Director of ITT – Secondary Programmes at Teach West London, reflects on how Mosaic has shaped the design and delivery of their programme.
Programme Context
“At Teach West London, as our name suggests, we work in partnership with over 80 placement schools across the London boroughs of Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Brent. We support trainee teachers across both Primary and Secondary phases, with a cohort of approximately 120 trainees.
We have used Mosaic since the programme began, and this has shaped how we designed our systems and processes from day one.”
Challenges
“Our trainees are supported by a dedicated mentor in each placement school, school ITT leads from placement schools, a Lead mentor, ITT Subject Lead and their Director of ITT. With support being offered from different roles, it is important to have everything in one place where everyone could see what is happening.
Our ambitions for programme oversight were grounded firmly in our core values. We wanted trainees to feel empowered through a clear understanding of expectations and progress, mentors to feel supported rather than burdened, and ITT staff to be able to hold fair and confident professional conversations.
Quality assurance therefore needed to be:
- embedded in everyday professional practice
- transparent and consistent across subjects and placements
- clearly aligned to our curriculum strands
- developmental and responsive.”
Approach
“Starting with Mosaic allowed us to design quality assurance in a way that was principled, connected and sustainable as the programme continues to develop. It enabled us to establish a single, shared system across the partnership, which has been central to building coherence and shared understanding across a wide range of schools, trainees and support roles.
Because integral aspects of the programme, such as mentor meetings, target setting, formative assessment and learning tasks, were designed with the platform in mind, tracking progress and development became part of meaningful professional dialogue rather than an additional administrative task. Mosaic captures cohort level monitoring of each aspect of a trainee’s engagement in the programme, enabling patterns to be noticed and quality to be maintained across the partnership.”
Impact
“As a result, there is a clear and continuous line of sight across individual trainees, empowering Lead Mentors to engage in more bespoke and responsive interactions where progress may have slowed. At the same time, Directors of ITT and ITT facilitators are able to maintain strategic oversight through cohort- and subject-level analysis. The ability to identify emerging patterns and risks early has been particularly important. It allows us to respond quickly and adapt support where needed, while maintaining high expectations for all trainees. This balance between rigour and care has strengthened trust across the partnership.
As the programme continues to develop, Mosaic has enabled us to maintain reliable oversight, while creating space to strengthen professional relationships and shared accountability. A strong digital platform does not replace professional judgement; it strengthens it by making expectations clear, evidence visible and quality assurance robust.”
