What should teachers be thinking about in an AI-powered world?
That’s one of the questions explored in AI in teacher professional development: The unnecessary and absolutely necessary cognitive load of developing as a teacher, published in the 2025 special issue of Impact Journal on AI in education by the Chartered College of Teaching (2025).
In the article, Robert Caudwell and Paul Mallaband, (two of our co-founders) share a framework for how to think about the role of AI in supporting teacher learning and development — rather than focusing on what thinking is and isn’t possible to outsource, we should be centring the discussion on what thinking is and isn’t desirable to outsource to the increasingly powerful AI tooling available to us.
🎥 Plus, watch the Chartered College of Teaching’s special edition Impact journal author panel webinar:
Catch up on the panel discussion that brought together authors from the special issue, including Mosaic Co-founder Paul Mallaband, to explore how AI is being used in schools and teacher education, its potential benefits and risks, and how educators can use AI safely and effectively to enhance learning, reduce workload and navigate emerging policy and training needs.
These ideas are informing an early AI prototype to support pre-service teachers with target and goal setting within the Mosaic platform – as part of our ongoing exploration into how AI can meaningfully support teacher development.
What would meaningful AI integration look like in your context? And what should it consider?
We’d love to get your feedback on the prototype – do come to our stand if you’d like to see it.
Whether it’s reducing admin burden or supporting critically reflective practice for pre-service teachers, insight from teacher educators and programme leaders will help shape what we do next.

“When we first started using Mosaic in 2022, we were really looking for something that could help us improve communication — not just between our team and trainees (or “SCITT teachers” as we call them), but also with mentors.
We’d never had an online platform that worked quite like Mosaic before. We've had a great experience using Mosaic. The trainees and mentors find it really useful and easy to use. It has streamlined our workload and has supported us to be more effective in monitoring and supporting our trainees. Since moving to Mosaic, we haven't looked back!"
